Here We Go Again….Get Into Higher Ground…..
September 21, 2007It's another saturday and this week's theme is higher ground. So, to get to the top, you begin from bottom. I decided to write on John Allen's All The Pope's Men on the Vatican and Pope Benedict's book called Jesus of Nazareth that serves to tie the secular and the divine. Here are some pictures I took for the column.

Read Now! And Why Is My Name So Long?
September 16, 2007
Wow, It actually happened! My column has begun and you can read it at:
Yeah, my name is J. Vincent Sarabia Ong. Why is my name so long compared to other writers? It seems my parents were reading my marketing books from college. They decided that my column header was valuable media space for
their business. Why didn't I shave? I was only told about the shoot an hour before it was taken. Can't write more
I have to move on to the next article. Ahhhhhhh!!

Who Needs Friends? When You Got Books! Shelfari Online
September 12, 2007 "Who Needs Friends? When You Got Books!" complained my friend when I told him we couldn't come back to the book fair the next day because of a birthday party. Yeah, it is true that we book lovers rather spend time with paper than people on occasion. Yet, to remedy this sickness so that we have people to express our love for books to, a new website called Shelfari has been created to unite book lovers. Basically, it is a friendster centered on books.Knowing book snobs, we don't usually judge books by their cover but we rather judge people by the books covers that they read. So, the cooler or the more obscure or snotty the books you have, the more friends you will get in this social circle. In a short, it is a nerd's popularity contest unlike friendster where people become famous by face value. In this world, book value is the currency….. wow…. true social order has finally arrived.
And Yes, I Have A Deadline: Read Now Moving To Print (Philippine Star)
September 10, 2007Don't ask me how or why but this beautiful blog will be a regular Saturday column for Philippine Star's New Youth Section starting September 15, 2007. With a real deadline, I will be surely posting once a week and this site will be featuring teasers of upcoming columns. Below are some shots for the 1st Issue. I don't what image will make it.

The Winner Is….
September 1, 2007Like the good book nerd I am (I even got free tickets from National Bookstore! Score!), I visited the Manila International Bookfair (August 29- Sept 2,2007) today. Bookfairs are good picker uppers for people like me because you realize that:
a) You are not alone.
b) There are nerdier people than you unless you are the biggest one there.
and c) If you are the biggest nerd there, you probably are too happy by the warmth of the books to mind it.
Out of all the books I saw, the winner of the fair is Vintage Classics Twins Line! The covers were so spectacularly well designed and their gimmick was fantastically creative. They bundled a classic book with modern one under a specific genre for only 500 pesos but they also went a step further. The bundled books came with a matching covers specially made for the promo. Enjoy!
Vintage Fantasy

Vintage Youth

Vintage Satire

Vintage Crime

I almost convinced myself today that I could read Crime and Punishment because of the cover. If only my high school books had the same vibe of Vintage, I probably would have done all my assignments on time.
