5 Great People in 2 Weeks
July 30, 2008
The thrill of journalism comes from getting to meet great people who will inspire you with their mere presence and words of wisdom. In a span of two weeks, I can’t believe I was able to see or actually interview these people. I will try to create an individual post for each of them later on. They come from various fields but the common denominator is that they are amazing. They are:
Business:
Thomas Fernandez, CEO of Pestbusters, No. 1 Pest Management Company in Singapore.
Catholic Church Leaders:
Pope Benedict XVI
Bishop Javier Echevarria, Prelate of Opus Dei
Film:
Carlo Ledesma
Government:
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani
Click the more button below to meet them.
1. Thomas Fernandez, CEO of Pestbuster, No. 1 Pest management firm in Singapore. He is the author of Secrets to Dominate Your Niche.
I was assigned to interview him about his book. I never met who a person who actually practices what he preaches like Thomas. How he construced and advertised the book reflected the principles that he wrote. I also never met someone so eager to serve and share.

2. Pope Benedict XVI (No introduction needed here)
I attended World Youth Day in Australia. Aside from his encouraging words for the youth, Pope Benedict’s smile radiated total bliss. I have never seen the Pope or any person that happy.

3. Carlos Ledesma, Filipino Film/Advertising Director based in Australia.
Short Film The Haircut below:
I was inspired by Carlo because he was soo driven to just direct films. Although he has a talent for scriptwriting and directing ads, all he wants to do is direct movies. He is someone to watch out for.Website: http://www.allorangefilms.com
4 . Rudy Giuliani, Former Mayor of New York
I was luckily sponsored by Tim Yap and Philippine Star to attend his talk on Leadership during Times of Crisis in Makati Shangri-La. Otherwise, I would have spent 30,000 pesos to be there. I love how he makes being mayor look like superhero crimefighting. I was expecting him to wear a cape later on.

5. Bishop Javier Echevarria, Prelate of Opus Dei

He is currently the head of Opus Dei, an organization in the Church that has 80,000 members around the world. He had a get together in SMX Hall, SM Mall of Asia yesterday afternoon. Like the founder of Opus Dei St. Josemaria, Bishop Echevarria carries on the tradition of preaching Catholic doctrine to a big crowd with light but spot on anecdotes. When he entered the room, he had an umistakeable presence that I couldn’t put my finger on and was not prepared for.
